I could use the internal display just fine on Windows side. Lots of people have working setups but I chose to just install the card on the Windows side and leave MacOS alone. On the software side, running an nVidia card in MacOS is more problematic than running it in Windows bootcamp. Hey man, in my experience just about any tb3 enclosure is backwards compatible with tb2, with some performance loss.
